Reflections from the 2024 Annual Meeting of the New Champions
I am thrilled to share my experiences and insights from participating in the 2024 Annual Meeting of the New Champions (AMNC) in Dalian, China. This year's theme, "Next Frontiers for Growth," resonated deeply as we explored the transformative potential of AI and digital advancements, especially for the Global South.
The opening of AMNC 2024 was marked by insightful discussions and inspiring speeches. I had the privilege of attending a session with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohamed, where we delved into the future of growth. Our conversation emphasized the critical need for collaboration, long-term strategies, and a new agenda for peace. We highlighted the necessity of engaging with governments and fostering intra-governmental dialogue to close gaps rather than widen them.
Opening remarks by Professor Klaus Schwab and Premier Li Qiang set an inspiring tone for the event. They underscored the importance of increased collaboration and dialogue in these challenging times. With the theme "Next Frontiers for Growth," each session offered unique perspectives on shaping a more inclusive and sustainable future.

Several key themes and discussions stood out throughout the conference:
Fostering Cooperation and Innovation
One of the significant highlights was the focus on fostering cooperation and innovation for better growth. We explored how coordinated strategies across fiscal, trade, and industrial sectors could bolster recovery and increase competitiveness. The Future of Growth initiative was particularly inspiring, promoting new growth models that emphasize innovation, inclusion, sustainability, and resilience.
AI and Digital Transformation
Discussions on entrepreneurship in the age of AI were compelling. We examined the transformative potential of AI and other frontier technologies, their impact on industries, economies, and societies, and the importance of responsible AI governance and sustainable practices.
Investing in People
Investing in people was another central theme. Initiatives like the Reskilling Revolution and Jobs Initiatives aim to provide better education and job opportunities to millions globally. This aligns perfectly with my mission to bridge the digital divide and promote digital citizenship.
Climate Change and Twin Transition
We also addressed the critical need for a coordinated approach to tackle climate change. The twin transition of digital and green technologies emerged as a crucial strategy to mitigate current risks. Emphasizing sustainable practices throughout the entire value chain and ensuring proper financial support for adopting green technologies were key takeaways.

Meeting world leaders and discussing potential future collaborations was a highlight of the event. Engaging in a closed session on "Driving Inclusive Transitions" organized by the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship was particularly enriching. We had a meaningful conversation with Hilde Schwab, discussing the critical need for collaboration to ensure inclusive growth and sustainability.
I also had the distinct pleasure of meeting Amina Mohammed, whose remarkable efforts led to the creation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Our discussion about Libya and the UN's intervention there was enlightening, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in addressing global challenges.
